JAY A. STELACONE has over twelve years of experience in all aspects of patent law, including patent preparation and prosecution; patent reissues and interferences; patentability, validity, infringement, and due diligence opinions; strategic patent portfolio development and management; and patent litigation. His practice includes not only U.S. patent counseling, but also advising clients on worldwide patent portfolio development, including foreign prosecution strategies.

Jay has technical expertise in the areas of aeronautical, biomedical, electrical, electro-mechanical, and mechanical engineering, and computer software. His particular technical expertise covers a variety of highly competitive technologies, including medical devices from such technical fields as cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, interventional cardiology, gastroenterology, urology, and radiology; automotive systems such as engines, fuel systems, and transmissions; and packaging machinery and robotics.

Prior to joining the firm, Jay co-founded Irving, Prass & Stelacone, LLP in 2006. Jay is also a former patent examiner of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he examined patent applications on a variety of biomedical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical devices. Prior to his legal career, Jay worked for several years as a systems engineer, where he counseled and advised on aerodynamics, propulsion, and other aspects of U.S. Navy missile systems.

Jay holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University (1986) and a J.D., with distinction, from the University of Nebraska College of Law (1993). He has also completed a number of graduate courses in Biomedical Engineering from The George Washington University. Jay is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.
