MARIA T. BAUTISTA offers experience in writing and prosecuting patents and assisting clients in developing and managing their patent portfolios, whether they be pioneering patents or part of a large established portfolio. She has advised clients with regard to clearance and validity issues of third party patents, among other intellectual property counseling. Maria has worked in a variety of chemical-based fields, including small molecules (organic, inorganic, and applied applications), solid state materials and applications, pharmaceuticals, polymers, and medical devices. She has collaborated with a variety clients ranging from start-up companies to large international corporations.
Maria previously worked as a technology specialist and an associate at two other intellectual property law firms in Boston where she prepared and prosecuted numerous patent applications, and drafted noninfringement and invalidity opinions.
Prior to her legal career, Maria was a post-doctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the field of bioinorganic chemistry. Maria holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in chemistry from the University of Toronto, a Ph.D. in inorganic/materials chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a J.D. from Suffolk University. She is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and is admitted to practice in Massachusetts. Maria is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Boston Patent Law Association, and the American Chemical Society.
