RICHARD E. GALARDY has over fifteen years of experience in cell biology, biochemistry and medicinal chemistry. He was the principal investigator on seven awarded National Institutes of Health research grants. He also has fifteen years of consulting experience in the pharmaceutical industry in small molecule drug design, development, research and GMP manufacturing, vendor management, and FDA filings at the IND level. He is an inventor on eight US patents and their overseas counterparts and an author of 70 published, peer-reviewed scientific papers. He is co-inventor of Galardin (generic name ilomastat), an anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor experimental drug which has been successfully licensed to multiple licensees and taken through FDA Phase III clinical trials. Dick was also the principal and owner of Atlantic Scientific, a contract custom synthesis and scale-up laboratory, for nine years.

Dick holds a Ph.D. in Life Sciences from Rockefeller University (1973) and an A.B. from Dartmouth College in Chemistry (1968). From 1973 to 1980 Dick was a member of the Department of Cell Biology at Yale University Medical School and was Assistant Professor from 1975 to 1980. From 1980 to 1990 Dick was a faculty member of the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Kentucky Medical School and was promoted from Associate Professor to full Professor with a Joint Appointment in Medicinal Chemistry. From 1990 to the present, Dick has continuously been a consultant for start-up, small-molecule pharmaceutical companies.
